Reconyx HS2X HyperFire 2 4G Wireless (Security camera)
The Reconyx HS2X ('S' stands for 'security') is the security model of the HyperFire 2 series, introduced in 2018. The HS2X is a more advanced and extended version of the Reconyx HF2X (outdoor) model; very suitable for security applications. The camera can be set to automatically switch on and off at specific days and times. Like the HF2X 4G wireless model, the HS2X 4G wireless features 4G Wireless connectivity. This allows users to have the captured images instantly pushed to the dedicated Reconyx App (when using the bundled Reconyx SIM card) or to an email address (when using a custom SIM card).
What makes the Reconyx wireless models unique compared to all other 4G wireless trailcameras in our range is the fact that the recording and forwarding process is performed synchronously. In all other 4G cameras, these processes are performed sequentially. This means that with most 4G cameras, there is always a pause of at least 30 seconds between two recordings because, after a recording has been made, the camera is first busy sending the image. Only then is the camera ready to take another shot. The Reconyx Wireless cameras, however, do not have this problem and can therefore react to motion and capture a new image while the system is still busy sending the previous image in the background. As a result, the recovery time between 2 motion triggers in the Reconyx cameras is much shorter than other 4G Wireless wildlife cameras (approximately 1.2 seconds recovery time).
The HS2X is very similar to the Reconyx HL2X HyperFire 2. The major difference between it and the HL2X is that the HL2X is specifically intended for legibly capturing license plates. Also, the HS2X and the HP2X can make longer videos and are equipped with an 'SD card management function', with which older images are automatically overwritten when the memory card becomes full. Finally, there are more physical adjustment possibilities for the Reconyx HS2X (think of an external power connection, external trigger, solar panel, zoom lens, etc.). Reconyx HS2X HyperFire 2 4G Wireless | Appearance
The housing of the camera models from the Hyperfire 2 4G Wireless series is pretty much identical. The dark green housing is very robust and able to withstand extreme weather conditions. The wireless models are equipped with 2 antennas located on top of the camera. As with all other Reconyx models, there is a locking clip on the right side, which gives access to the camera's control panel. This is also where you enter the SDHC memory card and AA batteries. When using Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries, the cameratrap can last a staggering 16 months!
Reconyx HF2X HyperFire 2 4G Wireless| Wireless connection
The HF2X 4G wireless models come with a SIM card from Reconyx as standard. You will be using data rates and the Reconxy mobile APP. You can find out more about the exact functionality and costs of using the Reconyx SIM card here. You can use this app to receive the images and change the camera settings. With this SIM card, you are bound to pay a fixed amount per month regardless of whether the camera actually takes pictures or not.
The 4G Wireless cameras from Reconyx are all simlock free so you can choose to have your own SIM card in the camera but you will not be able to use the Reconyx App. This will allow you to receive pictures to up to 2 email addresses, but will not allow you to remotely change settings in the camera. The advantage of using your own SIM card is that you only pay for the data costs of the SIM card (about 1 cent per transmitted photo), and therefore only pay for the actual usage, instead of a fixed monthly fee. Which of the two options is ultimately the most interesting depends, of course, on your intended use. We will be happy to advise you on this!
Within the bundle options, you can in any case also tick the option "SIM card + Installation". We will then equip the camera with a KPN prepaid SIM card with some initial credit. We will also set up the camera for use with the KPN sim card so that you can immediately place the camera in the field. It's a good idea to indicate in the order comments during checkout which e-mail address(es) you would like to receive the images from. Note that you do not have to order the SIM card + installation as you can also choose to use the standard Reconyx SIM card.

Reconyx HS2X HyperFire 2 4G Wireless| Recommended accessories
All camera traps are supplied without accessories. However, to get started with your cameratrap right away, you need at least a set of batteries and an SDHC memory card. For this model this is a standard SDHC memory card of at least Class 10, such as the Sandisk Ultra cards. Additionally, we recommend to use the Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries (not rechargeable), or the Panasonic Eneloop and Eneloop PRO rechargeable NiMH batteries. The advantage of the lithium batteries over the rechargeable Eneloop batteries is that the former are more resistant to winter temperatures. The disadvantage however, is that they are non-rechargeable. If you choose rechargeable batteries, think of the Everactive 8-bank charger, in case you don't have a good battery charger in your house!
In addition to batteries and a memory card, there is a variety of other accessories available for this cameramodel. There are all kinds of special mounting materials such as tree forks and supports, but also accessories that ensure that the camera is placed more securely, such as a steel security enclosure or a python cable lock. You can select these accessories directly above and place your order as a bundle, but you can also view the complete overview of accessories here.
