Reconyx HL2X 4G Wireless HyperFire 2
The Reconyx HL2X HyperFire 2 is the licence plate camera within HyperFire 2 series with 4G wireless connection. The HL2X specialises in capturing licence plates. The camera model delivers reliable and clear photos and videos of the number plate of a passing car. An important feature within this camera is of course its 4G Wireless connectivity. This allows users to send the captured images directly to the specially developed Reconyx App (when using the bundled Reconyx SIM card) or to an email address (when using their own SIM card). The fact that this camera keeps license plates readable makes it an ideal model for security applications such as entrance gates, remote sites or access roads to closed (private) sites. The Reconyx HL2X 4G Wireless licence plate recording camera features the following specifications:
- Invisible IR flash
- Detection range of 24 meter / Flash range of 15 meter
- 1.4MP photo resolution / 720p HD video resolution
- Dynamic video function
- Hybrid- and advanced time-lapse functionality
Reconyx HL2X HyperFire 2 (License plate camera)
The Reconyx HL2X 4G Wireless ('L' stands for 'License plate') is a HyperFire 2 series camera trap with 4G wireless connectivity. Due to the reflection of a number plate and the speed of passing cars, it is often difficult to capture clear photos or videos of a number plate with standard camera traps. The HL2X 4G Wireless specialises in licence plate capture. The camera model delivers reliable and clear photos and videos of the licence plate of a passing car. The fact that this camera model ensures that license plates remain legible makes it an extremely suitable model for security applications at, for example, entrance gates, remote sites or access roads to closed (private) sites.
But the most important feature of this camera is of course its 4G Wireless connectivity. This allows users to have the captured images instantly pushed to the dedicated Reconyx App (when using the bundled Reconyx SIM card) or emailed (when using their own SIM card). What makes the Reconyx wireless models unique compared to other 4G wireless wildlife cameras in our range is the fact that the recording and transmission process is synchronised. In all other 4G cameras, these processes are performed sequentially. This means that with most 4G cameras, there is always a pause of at least 30 seconds between two recordings because, after a recording has been made, the camera is first busy sending the image. Only then is the camera ready to take another shot. The Reconyx Wireless cameras, however, do not have this problem and can therefore react to motion and capture a new image while the system is still busy sending the previous image in the background. As a result, the recovery time between 2 motion triggers in the Reconyx cameras is much shorter than other 4G Wireless wildlife cameras (approximately 1.2 seconds recovery time).
The Reconyx HL2X 4G Wireless Wildlife Camera features an 'SD Card Management' function which automatically overwrites the oldest images when the memory card is about to run out of capacity. So you don't have to empty the SD card every time, but you can leave the camera where it is for a longer period of time and retrieve the images as soon as there is a reason to do so. Additional notable specifications of the Reconyx HL2X 4G Wireless are:
- Invisible IR flash
- 'HF Legacy' setting
- Detection range of 24 meter
- Flash range of 15 meter
- 1.4MP photo resolution
- 720p HD video resolution
- Dynamic video function
- Hybrid functionality (simultaneous photo- and videomode)
- Advanced time-lapse
Reconyx HL2X HyperFire 2 4G Wireless | Appearance
he housing of the camera models from the Hyperfire 2 4G Wireless series is pretty much identical. The dark green housing is very robust and able to withstand extreme weather conditions. The wireless models are equipped with 2 antennas located on top of the camera. As with all other Reconyx models, there is a locking clip on the right side, which gives access to the camera's control panel. This is also where you enter the SDHC memory card and AA batteries. When using Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries, the cameratrap can last a staggering 16 months!
Reconyx HL2X HyperFire 2 4G Wireless | Wireless connection
The HF2X 4G wireless models come with a SIM card from Reconyx as standard. You will be using data rates and the Reconxy mobile APP. You can find out more about the exact functionality and costs of using the Reconyx SIM card here. You can use this app to receive the images and change the camera settings. With this SIM card, you are bound to pay a fixed amount per month regardless of whether the camera actually takes pictures or not.
The 4G Wireless cameras from Reconyx are all simlock free so you can choose to have your own SIM card in the camera but you will not be able to use the Reconyx App. This will allow you to receive pictures to up to 2 email addresses, but will not allow you to remotely change settings in the camera. The advantage of using your own SIM card is that you only pay for the data costs of the SIM card (about 1 cent per transmitted photo), and therefore only pay for the actual usage, instead of a fixed monthly fee. Which of the two options is ultimately the most interesting depends, of course, on your intended use. We will be happy to advise you on this!
Within the bundle options, you can in any case also tick the option "SIM card + Installation". We will then equip the camera with a KPN prepaid SIM card with some initial credit. We will also set up the camera for use with the KPN sim card so that you can immediately place the camera in the field. It's a good idea to indicate in the order comments during checkout which e-mail address(es) you would like to receive the images from. Note that you do not have to order the SIM card + installation as you can also choose to use the standard Reconyx SIM card.

Therefore, we would like to refer to their reviews in order to give you an independent picture of the quality of the cameras. Read the review of the Reconyx HL2X HyperFire 2 by Trailcampro here. Reconyx HL2X HyperFire 2 4G Wireless | Recommended accessories
All camera traps are supplied without accessories. However, to get started with your cameratrap right away, you need at least a set of batteries and an SDHC memory card. For this model this is a standard SDHC memory card of at least Class 10, such as the Sandisk Ultra cards. Additionally, we recommend to use the Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries (not rechargeable), or the Panasonic Eneloop and Eneloop PRO rechargeable NiMH batteries. The advantage of the lithium batteries over the rechargeable Eneloop batteries is that the former are more resistant to winter temperatures. The disadvantage however, is that they are non-rechargeable. If you choose rechargeable batteries, think of the Japcell 8-bank charger, in case you don't have a good battery charger in your house!
In addition to batteries and a memory card, there is a variety of other accessories available for this cameramodel. There are all kinds of special mounting materials such as tree forks and supports, but also accessories that ensure that the camera is placed more securely, such as a steel security enclosure or a python cable lock. You can select these accessories directly above and place your order as a bundle, but you can also view the complete overview of accessories here.
