Browning Defender - 4G Wireless
The Browning Defender - 4G Wireless is Browning's very first 4G model for the European market. We had to wait a long time for it, but it's finally here! And fortunately, it has been worth the wait, because this Browning Defender 4G Wireless has a very fast response and recovery time, a high image resolution, a built-in color viewer, as well as an integrated mounting bracket, as we are used to from Browning cameras. Best of all, Browning has also put this model on the market at a very competitive price. They probably did this to quickly get many people in touch with their first 4G camera. The Browning Defender wildlife camera features a completely invisible infrared flash, making this model especially best suited when there is a risk of theft. The Browning Defender camera comes with a built-in sim card from Browning. After creating an account with Browning and choosing a data bundle, all images will arrive neatly in an app on your phone, as we are used to with Spypoint, for example. Further down you will find some information regarding the fees for forwarding images. Additional appointable specifications of the Browning Defender 4G Wireless are:
- Detection range of more than 24 meters (adjustable)
- Flash range of over 24 meters (adjustable)
- Maximum photo resolution of 20MP (interpolated)
- 1080p FULL HD video resolution (30 fps)
- Dynamic video function (Smart IR Video)
Browning Defender - 4G Wireless | Appearance
The Browning Defender has a camouflage print housing with an integrated mounting bracket on the back, allowing you to easily aim the wildlife camera while positioning it. The wildlife camera features a latch on the lower half of the front where settings should be entered. The 1.5-inch internal color viewer allows you to see live what the wildlife camera is observing (very useful when positioning the camera in the field) and view captured images directly in the field. This camera runs on no less than 16AA batteries, which are fed in with a battery slide, which is slid into the bottom of the wildlife camera using a click system. When using 16 pieces of Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries, the wildlife camera can last about 2.5 months (assuming 70 pictures per day captured and forwarded).

Browning Defender - 4G Wireless| Data tarieven
The Browning Defender 4G Wireless has an internal built-in 4G SIM card. This wildlife camera has a simlock, and therefore it is not possible to insert another sim card yourself. You have to use the international SIM card that is inside the camera, which automatically selects the best available network at the location where the camera is placed. This works within the Netherlands, but also in the rest of Europe. As a customer, you can buy a bundle per month. This monthly fee is paid directly to Browning, and we are not in between. The rates for the different packages are shown below (Note: the prices are shown in US Dollars, but for Europe the same amounts apply, but in EURO). For more info on Browning data bundles, please refer to Browning website.
Compared to a regular prepaid SIM card and the associated rates for forwarding images, these rates are very much in line with the market. For example, if you choose the "Sports package," you pay €12.99 per month in exchange for 1,200 photos. That means you pay about 1 cent per forwarded photo. When using a regular KPN Prepaid SIM card, the rate per photo is also about 1 cent. You can change or stop the rate plan at any time.
Browning Defender - 4G Wireless | Alternatives
Are you looking for a 4G wildlife camera that allows you to use your own SIM card? Then check out the Wilsus Tradenda 4G WIRELESS. This model is unlocked and can therefore be equipped with a SIM card of your choice. This gives maximum flexibility, but is also more pricey to purchase partly because of this.
Browning Defender - 4G Wireless | Independent review by Silvavir Ecological Consultants
Since the summer of 2019 we have partnered up with Silvavir Ecological Consultants. They perform standardized and objective reviews of trailcameras. We started this partnership to provide more insight into the differences and similarities between the cameramodels that are available on today's market, and to offer people a helping hand in choosing the right cameratrap. For this model, an independent review is not yet available.
Browning Defender - 4G Wireless | Standardized review by Trailcampro
Trailcampro is the largest camera trap supplier in the United States. They write standardized reviews of almost all trail cameras that are available on the market, which makes the comparability of the different cameras a bit easier! That is why we would like to refer to their reviews to give you a comparable overview of the quality of the various camera traps. Read Trailcampro's review of the American version of the Browning Defender 4G Wireless here.
Browning Defender - 4G Wireless | Recommended accessories
All camera traps are supplied with a nylon strap but without any further accessories. To get started with your camera trap right away, you need at least a set of batteries and an SD memory card. For this model, this is a standard SDHC or SDXC memory card of at least Class 10, such as the Sandisk Ultra cards. The maximum storage capacity for this camera is 512GB. In terms of batteries, we recommend to use the Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries (not rechargeable), or the Panasonic Eneloop or Eneloop PRO rechargeable NiMH batteries. The advantage of the lithium batteries over the rechargeable Eneloop batteries is that the former are more resistant to winter temperatures. The disadvantage, however, is that they are non-rechargeable. If you choose rechargeable batteries, don't forget to consider adding the Everactive battery charger, in case you don't have a good battery charger in your house!
In addition to batteries and a memory card, there is a variety of other accessories available for this camera model. There are all kinds of special mounting materials such as tree forks and supports, but also accessories that ensure that the camera is placed more securely, such as a security enclosure or a python cable lock. You can select these accessories directly above and place your order as a bundle, but you can also view the complete overview of accessories here.
