The BolyGuard BG662-D is exceptional in that it has a dual flash; an invisible infrared flash (what most wildlife cameras have) and a WHITE LED flash. The invisible flash provides good night images in black and white, which is ideal in places with a risk of theft or where disturbance of wildlife is a risk. In fact, the white LED flash is similar to the infrared LEDs, but with a visible white light (like the flash you often see on cell phones), giving great color images at night! The disturbance to animals seems to be tremendously low. Currently, Bolyguard is the only brand that offers models with multiple built-in flash types, making it a very interesting option for specific applications! Besides the BG662-D, there is also a sim card wireless variant of this model, the BG662-M. And in addition to the BG662 models that both have a wide-angle lens with an angle of view of 100 degrees, there is also the SG2060-T model with a standard lens with an angle of view of about 57 degrees.

    BolyGuard BG662-D - Double Flash

The Bolyguard BG662-D with Double flash is a wildlife camera manufactured by Boly Media Inc. What makes the Bolyguard BG662-D especially unique is the fact that it has a double flash; an invisible infrared flash (which is what most wildlife cameras have), and a WHITE LED flash. The invisible flash provides good night images in black and white, which is ideal in places with a risk of theft or where wildlife disturbance is a risk. The LED flash is in fact similar to the infrared LEDs, but with a visible white light (like the ones you often see on cell phones), which gives nice color images! It also seems that the disturbance to the animals seems to be anything but. Of course, a startle reaction is often seen with the first sighting of an individual animal, but in all cases, that same individual continues to visit the camera location as usual, and thus no lasting disturbance seems to occur. At present, the Bolyguard is the only wildlife camera on the market that combines a completely invisible infrared flash with a white flash, and thus with the choice to switch between color images at night or black and white night images, making it a very interesting choice for specific applications!

BolyGuard BG662-D - Double Flash | Main features

One of the most important features of the Bolyguard BG662-D is the flash. As mentioned, this allows you to choose whether the night images are in color or black and white. The Bolyguard BG662-D is one of the few models with a white flash in our entire range. But the white flash is not the only thing that stands out. This wildlife camera has a 8MP CMOS image sensor, which is interpolated to a maximum photo resolution of 56 megapixels. In itself, the 56MP photo resolution is not necessarily spectacular, but many of the other brands in this price range do not reach a photo resolution of 56MP first of all, but often they also use a 5MP CMOS sensor, and this is where image quality really matters. Interpolation can basically be done just as well afterwards in a good photo editing program on the computer, but the actual number of pixels captured when taking a picture is determined by the image sensor. In the more expensive models we see more and more 8MP sensors or sensors with even higher MP values, but in this price range this is still quite exceptional! Furthermore, the Bolyguard SG2060-T also has a large detection range and flash range of up to 30 meters! In practice, however, it must be said that we are of the opinion that you should never count on a perfectly exposed night image at distances greater than 15 meters from the camera. This is only possible when conditions are perfect (full moon, clear sky, and thus plenty of night light). Moreover, we believe that because this is a wide-angle lens model with a 100-degree angle of view, you should use this model especially when animals normally pass in front of the camera at less than 10 meters. Finally, the Bolyguard SG2060-T has a built-in 2.0-inch color viewer on which captured photos and videos can be instantly reviewed, but which also makes setting up easy due to the large color screen.

    BolyGuard BG662-D - Double Flash | Alternatives

There are really only two real alternatives to the BG662-D. If you are looking for a camera exactly like this one, but with SIM card wireless functionality, the BG662-M is the perfect alternative. This is the same camera but with 4G SIM card functionality. The other alternative model is the BolyGuard SG2060-T. Like the BG662-D and BG662-M, this model has both a NO GLOW invisible IR flash and a white LED flash. The major difference between the SG2060-T and the BG662 models is the angle of view of the lens. The SG2060-T has an angle of view of about 57 degrees, while the BG662 models have a wide-angle lens with an angle of view of 100 degrees. This results in a much larger overview of the situation especially at short distances, but it results in animals passing the camera at longer distances (more than 10 meters away from the camera) being less easy to identify because everything appears smaller with a wide-angle lens. Thus, when monitoring at distances shorter than 7-8 meters from the camera, the BG662 models are favored, while when monitoring at greater distances, the SG2060-T is preferred.

BolyGuard BG662-D - Double Flash | Independent review by Silvavir Ecology Consultancy

Since the summer of 2019 we have partnered up with Silvavir ecology consultancy. They perform standardized and objective reviews of trailcameras. We started this partnership to provide more insight into the differences and similarities between the cameramodels that are available on today's market, and to offer people a helping hand in choosing the right cameratrap. BolyGuard BG662-D - Double Flash | Recommended accessories

All camera traps are supplied with a nylon strap for mounting, but without any other accessories. However, to get started with your cameratrap right away, you need at least a set of batteries and an SDHC memory card. For this model this is a standard SDHC memory card of at least Class 10, such as the Sandisk Ultra cards. Additionally, we recommend to use the Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries (not rechargeable), or the Panasonic Eneloop and Eneloop PRO rechargeable NiMH batteries. The advantage of the lithium batteries over the rechargeable Eneloop batteries is that the former are more resistant to winter temperatures. The disadvantage however, is that they are non-rechargeable. If you choose rechargeable batteries, think of the Everactive 8-bank charger, in case you don't have a good battery charger in your house!

In addition to batteries and a memory card, there is a variety of other accessories available for this cameramodel. There are all kinds of special mounting materials such as tree forks and supports, but also accessories that ensure that the camera is placed more securely, such as a steel security enclosure or a python cable lock. You can select these accessories directly above and place your order as a bundle, but you can also view the complete overview of accessories here.
